AI: Real-World Evidence (RWE) Projects for Life Sciences

Deep 6 AI, the leader in AI-powered patient recruitment and real-world data (RWD), together with Magnolia Market Access, a provider of tailored RWD insights and strategies for market access, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and healthcare policy, today announced a partnership to accelerate stakeholder decision-making across the pharmaceutical, biologic, and medical device product lifecycle. The combined RWE generation solution uses AI to develop fit-for-purpose, analysis-ready clinical data sets from electronic medical record (EMR) data months faster than traditional approaches. Typically, it can take life sciences companies a year or more to contract with healthcare organizations to gain access to EMR data. Site staff then shoulder the burden of manually identifying and pulling potentially eligible patient charts. The offering from Deep 6 AI and Magnolia Market Access uses AI to instantly and precisely find patients that are eligible for research…

Retinal thickness predicts Parkinson  progression

A study by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and Biobizkaia proposes using an available, simple, non-invasive tool to monitor this neurodegeneration Although there are still some aspects pending confirmation for its use in the clinical setting, and its resolution needs to be improved slightly, a study by the UPV/EHU and Biobizkaia has shown that a method routinely used to carry out ophthalmological tests can also be used to monitor the neurodegeneration that occurs in Parkinson’s patients. In the course of the research it was found that the neurodegeneration of the retina probably precedes cognitive impairment. Today, identifying Parkinson’s patients at risk of cognitive impairment poses a major challenge, yet this is necessary when it comes to providing more effective clinical treatments and stepping up clinical trials. In fact, Dr Ane Murueta-Goyena, in collaboration with Biobizkaia’s research staff, wanted…

AI-assisted breast-cancer screening may reduce unnecessary testing

Using artificial intelligence (AI) to supplement radiologists’ evaluations of mammograms may improve breast-cancer screening by reducing false positives without missing cases of cancer, according to a study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Whiterabbit.ai, a Silicon Valley-based technology startup. The researchers developed an algorithm that identified normal mammograms with very high sensitivity. They then ran a simulation on patient data to see what would have happened if all of the very low-risk mammograms had been taken off radiologists’ plates, freeing the doctors to concentrate on the more questionable scans. The simulation revealed that fewer people would have been called back for additional testing but that the same number of cancer cases would have been detected. “False positives are when you call a patient back for additional testing, and it turns out to be benign,”…

Notable Labs Presents the Design Plan for the PPMP-Enabled Phase 2 Trial with Volasertib for Relapsed/Refractory AML at AACR 2024

FOSTER CITY, Calif., April 09, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Notable Labs, Ltd. (Nasdaq: NTBL) (“Notable” or the “Company”), a clinical-stage precision oncology company developing a new class of cancer therapies identified by its Predictive Precision Medicine Platform (PPMP), today presented the design for the PPMP-enabled Phase 2 trial with volasertib, in combination with decitabine, in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukemia (AML) at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR 2024) being held in San Diego, CA (Poster abstract 5178). FDA Roundup: April 9, 2024

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is providing an at-a-glance summary of news from around the agency: U.S. Food and Drug Administration 09 Apr, 2024, 15:31 ET On Friday, the FDA authorized for marketing MMI North America, Inc.’s Symani Surgical System, indicated for use during certain microsurgical procedures on small blood vessels and lymphatic ducts in adults. The system includes the use of a motion scaling function, which scales down the surgeon’s movements. Microsurgery covers procedures involving the use of microscopes and small instruments to perform small-scale surgical techniques. The system is intended for use by trained physicians in the operating environments described in the device’s labeling. On Friday, the FDA granted accelerated approval to fam-trastuzumab deruxtecan-nxki (Enhertu, Daiichi Sankyo, Inc.) for adult patients with unresectable or metastatic HER2-positive (IHC3+) solid tumors who have received prior systemic treatment and…
