[Brussels, Belgium] – [17.OCT.24] The European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) will be hosting European Laboratory Day, on November 05th 2024. This annual event celebrates the contributions of laboratory medicine professionals across Europe and encourages EFLM members to host open-door events in their labs. EULabDay promotes activities that highlight the essential role of laboratory medicine in public health, individual patient care, education and research
Healthcare is a top priority for Europe, as reflected in the EU4Health programme (2021-2027), which aims to strengthen Europe’s health systems and improve crisis preparedness. Laboratory medicine professionals play a crucial role in achieving these goals by driving innovation, ensuring accurate diagnostics, and supporting critical research that leads to better patient outcomes.
It’s estimated over two thirds of today’s global medical decisions depend on laboratory test results, underscoring the essential contribution of laboratory medicine professionals. This year’s focus for European Laboratory Day is shining a spotlight on the skills, diversity and resilience of the professionals behind key healthcare decisions. From diagnostics to disease monitoring, their contributions have never been more vital, especially in light of recent global health challenges. European Laboratory Day will recognise the essential role these healthcare professionals play in supporting Europe’s healthcare systems, driving medical innovation, and safeguarding public health.

The European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) connects national societies of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine and creates a platform for all European Specialists in Laboratory Medicine. EFLM provides European leadership in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine to national professional societies, the diagnostic industry and governmental and non-governmental organisations, in order to serve the public interest in healthcare.
